Flow Impressions

Flow is an upcoming FTP app for Mac OS X. Currently in a private beta, with a public beta coming sometime soon.

Flow is a brand-new remote connection client. It aims to bring FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, WebDAV HTTPS, and .Mac to new levels with a combination of tried and true paradigms, and clever new concepts, like Auto URL Copying, among others. But Flow isn’t just a remote connection client. It’s also a powerful web-editor — without the bloat you see in other products which all too often seem to mangle the two together…

Will, of MacApper, is part of the beta testing, and writes about what he thinks of Flow so far.

The interface is simple and intuitive for an FTP client; everything works just like the way it looks. Although the icons could be slightly prettier, I’m not complaining, given the beautiful “Mac look”. Thumbs up to the Flow team for more great design.
Like any other respectable FTP client out there, Flow supports bookmarks. There’s not much to say here, apart from the fact that they’re really easy to use. Create a bookmark and the address shows up in the sidebar. From then on it’s one click to connect and edit the files.

Flow is fast too; it may not be much different compared to the competition, but like I said I’m not that experienced with this stuff. However, I’ve noticed that it is not noticeably slower than Transmit, Cyberduck, or Yummy FTP.

I’m waiting for a chance to try this out, and see how good it really is.

A DiRT-y Review

I’ve been playing DiRT since about a week after it was released. And I love it. I bought Forza 2 on release day, and since I got DiRT, DiRT has seen more action, its just that good.

I’m not the only one that thinks DiRT is an awesome game.

It seems that every few months a lower profile game comes along that knocks everyone back in their seat. DiRT is definitely one of those games. A combination of minimal promotion and a poorly timed release date (just 3 weeks after Forza 2) were no doubt factors that made DiRT slip past most people’s radars. But this is where Xbox Live truly shines. A demo featuring 3 event types and 3 car classes hit the Marketplace around the time Forza 2 hit shelves and it really was undeniably good. Luckily for us, it proved to be a tiny sampling of the goods that pack the full career in DiRT.

From the moment you fire up DiRT for the first time, you’re impressed by it’s presentation. The in game graphics are phenomenal…

If you are still on the edge about this game, download the free demo on XBox live.

Pownce; A Review

Pownce is the next generation Twitter. Glenn Wolsey has an in-depth review of Pownce.

Pownce is very similar to Twitter from a quick scan. You add friends, post messages for others to read, and generally connect with other people. The difference is, Pownce adds to these features in a highly functional and appreciated way.

Overall, Pownce hasn’t fail to impress. It’s a solid service which I assume I’ll be in constant contact with in the future. There are a few things I’d like to see added and improved on in the future, just like hundreds of other early adopters.

Pownce is growing fast, and if you’d like an invite to try it out, leave a comment, I’ll send one your way until I run out.

DreamHost Customers Get Apology

Currently Playing ~ Without Fear | Lacuna Coil

Dreamhost recently had an outage that was previously planned. They had to repair some wiring in the building. But what wasn’t planned was the 36 hours of slow loading times, on and off again services, and overall loss of services.

So they offered an apology.

And some DreamHost customers probably didn’t really care that they couldn’t load their sites, or check their email, but I was annoyed.

Daniel Jalkut was more annoyed at DreamHost’s extremely lame and unprofessional apology.

In the latest DreamHost newsletter, DreamHost offers an apology for the recent outages. Actually, they don’t offer an apology in the newsletter, they make stupid excuses and then point to their self-titled “Super Lame Apology.” At least they got one thing right.

I find almost every line in the newsletter to be laughable, so I’d like to reply on behalf of all DreamHost customers:

After this recent downtime, and DreamHost’s apology, I’m tempted to change my webhost. Not sure where, or if I’ll go though.

Vista’s Annoying Features

Currently Playing ~ Flying High Again | Ozzy Osbourne

Microsoft’s Vista has tons of “new” features. Most of them copied from Mac OS X. But it turns out, some of these features aren’t very good.

There’s lots to like in the newest version of Windows. Vista’s look is stunning, the OS should be more secure, and finding things is often easier. But Windows wouldn’t be Windows without those aspects, big and small, that just drive you nuts with frustration. Here’s our list of Vista features that just make us wonder, “What were they thinking?”

Some of these things makes Microsoft look completely retarded, and its hard to believe that anyone that uses a computer would have put the code in to do some of this.
