DRM Scorecard: Simply Said, Hackers Win

The MAFIAA has been trying to limit the ways we can enjoy our media by using different types of DRM. They like to think that they are winning the so called war. But Alexander Wolfe shows that the hackers are winning by a long shot. In fact, the MAFIAA hasn’t won a single battle with their DRM.

When you look at the technology, there’s no getting around the fact that DRM is an abject failure. I put together a scorecard, which shows that every single significant attempt at consumer-music DRM has been cracked.

Yes, every type of consumer DRM has been cracked. Finland doesn’t even consider the DRM on DVDs DRM anymore, saying that is it so weak, it shouldn’t be considered as a protective system. And most will remember the huge outburst of the AACS code that was all over the internet right after it was cracked.
